Concept

EMOTERE : Latin for Energy in Motion
A photo book that illustrates the internal feeling of emotions with movement externally using a photography technique called shutter dragging and lighting using continuous lighting & color gels to represent each emotion. "Emotere" The name best represents this concept because the mental process of actually feeling emotions is the brain sends information or impulses to the entire body using specific neurotransmitters. This process is chemical that then causes physical reactions such as sweating, crying, etc., therefore, converting chemical energy to physical energy; Energy in motion. I wanted to use photography to illustrate this process and show how the body reacts to different stimuli that cause us to feel how we feel. So without a doubt, we are somewhat responsible for how we feel and how we take in information and process it.
The design process began after being informed from the research aspect of the project. it began with a mood board of publication designs and layouts that I liked and felt represented my idea for how I wanted the book to look. After doing that next were the sketches of the book layout. This wasn't too difficult because since it was primarily a photo book, the text layout would be really simple. After all, I wanted the images to take lead and I want that to stand out rather than the text or other design elements. After deciding how the book would look like, the next and hardest part was to find models and shoot the project. After securing the models for the shoot and testing the technique. After some post-production in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, the images were ready.
Next, I had to design the Title Font for each emotion, I used regular type then warped it in photoshop using warp text and the liquify tool to get the desired effect. I choose the warped text because I wanted to illustrate the movement of the images portray and the theme of energy in motion.
