TUMI - is a twi (Ghanaian Language) word meaning strength or power. For this project i wanted to highlight the influence of Africa and African culture all over the world. Creating sub-cultures like the Afro-Latino, African American, British African, Afro caribbean cultures or even whole tribes like the Garifuna people of Honduras etc; therefore creating new cultures, new connections, and a rich african diaspora.
What started as the slave trade has seen the strength of african people to go and adapt to new environments and carving a spot at the table for themselves with their blood, sweat, and tears. I choose women because they are the true strength of any society, without women that community dies.
